  •  Why do people (8+ / 0-)

persist in asking "what is this trying to accomplish"?  What they may want to consider doing is using that brain space to instead try and think up creative ways to Occupy Media.

I seriously think that's something the movement needs to look into. I've been trying to come up with some good ideas, but not getting too far....

It is time to #Occupy Media.

Reporters would be earning their broadcast chops by being there at Zuccoti/Liberty Park.  And on OWS occupying the steps of a Federal Building?  Mass coverage.

But the elite figured it all out from the 60's and early 70's. When people find out what you've been doing, they're going to get really angry.  So angry that a president might have to resign or have his impeachment confirmed by the Senate, and an Attorney General go to jail, and a vice-president resign ad nauseum.

And the elite decided We the People would be served pap instead of nutritious food to promote growth.

      I like your idea.

    •  the thing that amazes me (17+ / 0-)

is the indifference to the violence.

the level of police violence has been way ratcheted up since March 17, and there has been a decidedly creepy sexual element that suddenly appeared that really didn't used to be there before - systematically grabbing women's' breasts, that sort of thing. And of course breaking bones. Suddenly though it's not a story any more.

      How did that happen?

Half of this country is applauding the police brutality.
They got to bring guns to theirs. More threats of violence at the Tea party gatherings protesting the bank bail out.
Did the Cock brothers pay the police to back off.
Interesting that the cips left them alone.

that the increased police brutality has been shrugged off.   Many Americans, unfortunately are inured to violent scenes.  Between "blood sports", perma-war and Hollywood action films, a little smash and cop a feel is meaningless to many.

Additionally, seeing that something is wrong would mean an individual needs to do something about what is wrong.  Denying that something wrong has happened and not doing anything about it is the easy way out.  Sadly, most people always take the path of least resistance.

I credit the "war on women" that we are seeing everywhere in this country with the "creepy sexual element".  Yet another way to demonstrate "the states dominance" over women.

        •  A fascist mind set in the people... (0+ / 0-)

evidenced with shrugging off the violence and some even calling for folks to be clobbered and arrested...advocating against their own interests. Isn't that one of the hidden meanings of fascism? Becomine an advocate for a brutal state system that works against your own best interests?

      •  It is creepy and so very disturbing. I had a cop (0+ / 0-)

poke me in the breast with two fingers near an OWS protest. I was standing in front of Walgreens in Time Square and had a OWS sign and he didn't like that. It is a wonder that I didn't go to jail. I don't like to be poked in the boob by anyone, let alone a violent huge assed cop so I didn't react all that well.

      the Web site:
      http://occupywallst.org/

If a huge part of the population is viewing this site and supporting the effort by learning about what is going on and spreading the word, that is good free media.

Also, OWS was publishing a wonderful "on paper" newspaper.
I don't know if they are still but, if so, supporting this paper is another thing that people can do.

Another is giving money to OWS. The more money they get the higher the media visibility and that is free media.

Other ideas are to contact reporters and ask them to cover OWS actions, write letters to the editors and protest outside media outlets.

      Not great but a start.

        •  Good to know. It is a wonderful publication. (0+ / 0-)

          This newspaper really deserves support.

Not a way to "occupy" the media but to BE the media.
