    ... and while I usually consider myself "worst case scenario girl," this thought never occurred to me when I bought my house. I feel so incredibly and extremely lucky and fortunate.

    I'm not surprised, however, since I have been told by my manager that I am "the lightest Hispanic" he ever knew and have been met with audible gasps and visible shock when people find out I'm not white but Hispanic. Yet, I identify with the racism and discrimination against darker skinned Hispanics because I saw it with my mother and extended family members.

    This is disturbing to me. I just now realized that while I may have been discriminated against after people finding out my last name and ethnic background, I have been given special consideration because on the outside I look more "white" than "one of those messicans."

    I think I'm about to cry.

    Scratch that... I am crying.
