  •  I would say in the past tense, (0+ / 0-)

    "It's what permitted a market...".  This is a consequence of today's global, integrated market, and as a result that old philosophy cannot be applied or enforced any longer.  Besides, if Walmart is allowed to buy on the cheap from China, then why can't individual consumers do the same from overseas booksellers?

    •  The technical reason for that, I suppose... (0+ / 0-) that in Wal Mart's case every participant in the chain agrees with it, while in the bookseller case one key participant, the orginal producer of the intellectual property, does object.  

      But nobody's buying flowers from the flower lady.
