  •  I think we all know that for the most part the (5+ / 0-)

real news is unreported by the MM.

As someone once said (Jon Stewart?) "The facts have a liberal bias."

The New York Times lost all its credibility with me over the Judith Miller stuff in the run-up to Iraq.

The investigative journalism of the Washington Post Watergate Era is dead.

Witness the coma-like acceptance of the American public over the greatest financial crimes/swindle in history - the mortgage/foreclosure scams and the resulting financial meltdown followed by the multiple trillion dollars stealth  bailout.  Americans allow this to happen and actually let their clueless leaders lecture them about being "adult" and "responsible" and accepting their new diet of sour gruel austerity in order to pay for the crimes they did not commit and were actually the victims of.

There is a market for actual journalism since it is a void in the marketplace right now. Some of these displaced reporters should dream big and set-up a journalism co-op and pay themselves and some great editors to show people once again how it used to be. A website first and then print media if warranted.

This is actually one place Occupy might throw some of their money and energy, especially since they don't want to be co-opted by political parties. This would be the way to change the parties themselves to be more responsive to the public.

“Human kindness has never weakened the stamina or softened the fiber of a free people. A nation does not have to be cruel to be tough.” FDR
