  •  The experts can't be muzzled if they don't want to (9+ / 0-)

be (also depends on the kinds of non-compete agreements they signed).

And afaics there is no convincing evidence so far that GM foods had anything to do with this massive bee die-off, whereas the evidence is very weighty that neonicotinoid pesticides were/are the culprit.

Still, I would love for a Mother Jones reporter -- or Mulder and Scully -- to sniff around this Beelogics deal....

    •  Seed treatments often do include neonicotinoids (2+ / 0-)

and they are made by Monsanto as well as Bayer and others.
(Well not any seed treatments used in Italy or many other countries)
It turns out that seed treatments are part of the problem

Earlier research showed that after treated corn is planted, the amount of pesticide residue in the soil is below 50 ppb, which is not high enough to cause acute toxicity in bees. Tapparo’s team looked instead at the amount of insecticide that falls to the ground and is released to the air during seed planting. Farmers use pneumatic machines that suck seeds out of a bin and blow them toward the ground. In the process, bits of the seed coating break off and can become airborne.
And their Roundup has been proven to causes deformities in amphibian (I read that April study just as I was considering using some I'd been given)
I won't try to get to links on the human problems studies show it affects (too many iffy sites on the pages)
But I will say since it is advertized as so safe (use it, plant your food the next day as kids and pets roll in the treated dirt kind of thing) and is used so much
if it can affect the bigger things that are exposed I wouldn't rule out some direct or indirect role with the bees.

As you research monsanto or Bayer or the other companies they are all so intertwined (with their buddy dow, many joint projects) they are hard to tell apart...

Our only hope is other countries where monsanto's bullying and threats and suits don't work so well...

      •  They are threating to sue Vermont... (0+ / 0-)

Let's support the Vermont Legislature with our donations and letters and petitions...

        •  They sue everyone... states, countries, stores, (0+ / 0-)

          farms, dairies...
They don't have to sue our country though because they are so loved by our government, whatever the party
