... losing power corrupts those who wield it and fear of the scourge of power corrupts those who are subject to it. (Ahem...Google)

AUNG SAN SUU KYI, Freedom from Fear

No passion so effectually robs the mind of all its powers of acting and reasoning as fear.

EDMUND BURKE, On the Sublime and Beautiful

Oh the sublime and beautiful apotheosis of Rush Limbaugh, how the mighty are falling. FOTHM, Scott Walker, Komen, ALEC, Wal-not-sMart and the immanent demise of Assad, I see a connecting thread from Mohamed_Bouazizi to Sandra Fluke. The good may not outweig the bad, but the ball is rolling in the right direction IMHO.

Are you sure you're using the right word? I always thought it meant "the making of a mortal into a god."

And if it's one thing Limbo isn't, it's a god!

      •  In his mind, I gaurantee. (0+ / 0-)

I would be very surprised if at least a portion of his psychological justification for his current straits does not involve some form of martyrdom along the lines of 'If I go down its because I've sacrificed myself upon the pyre of righteousness'. In his mind he becomes the sacred transcendent Flame of the West. Therefore justifying everything he's done in the name of all that's holey, blah, blah, blah. I'd stake my swagger cane on it. See pathological narcissism in high functioning individuals.

Love seeketh only Self to please,
To bind another to its delight,
Joys in another’s loss of ease,
And builds a Hell in Heaven’s despite.

I believe there is a strong element of manipulativeness in his nature. He enjoys hurting other people, probably because he is a psychopath as well as being psychotic.

          •  According to this diagnostic manual.... (0+ / 0-)
...NPD is present when at least five of the following criteria are met:
            1. has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)
            2. is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
            3. believes that he or she is “special” and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)
            4. requires excessive admiration
            5. has a sense of entitlement, i.e., unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her expectations
            6. is interpersonally exploitative, i.e., takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends
            7. lacks empathy: is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others
            8. is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her
            9. shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes.
            Source (emphasis mine)
I count nine (out of five required for diagnosis) conforming qualities in Mr. L's publicly known behavior. Case closed in Laymanland.
