  •  I had an English teacher (8+ / 0-)

who tried to fail me because she didn't like my writing style. She also didn't like any of the authors I read and was basing my evolving writing style on. Fortunately for me, I had several other English teachers who were more fair and actually had praised my work. I showed a few of them one of the essays I'd done for the other teacher and asked them to grade it, their grades ranged from B's to A's, hers was an F. When I showed them her grade along with her comments, they had a talk with her and the Admin. She graded more fairly after that, for everyone, whether she liked them or not.
Later on I had the same teacher for Brit Lit, and it was like having an entirely different teacher than what she'd been like originally. Sometimes the system can work. But I wasn't disabled and was able to speak up for myself. I also had the backing of the rest of the English Department.

    •  I did the same with my issues (6+ / 0-)

in regards to having other teachers check my work. The office admins ignored it. I was not allowed to have these other teachers speak on my behalf when we petitioned in front of the school board. To this day, I HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE!!!!!  when someone uses the phrase, "Deal with it". I do my best not to dwell on hate, but certain things trigger emotional responses which are primal...

I think people should be allowed to do anything they want. We haven't tried that for a while. Maybe this time it'll work. -George Carlin

It was handled by the English Dept. and the admins. It may have helped that my dad went to school with several of the admins and they were afraid of him LOL. They didn't want to bring my parents into it, and they knew I would if it weren't handled appropriately. I wasn't asking for better treatment, just a fair grade. I realize I got the best possible outcome, and it wasn't always the case even in my school.
