    our spiritual condition arises as a consequence of the actions we ourselves take.
    pretty clearly doesn't (or shouldn't) apply to the situation I described.

    Another way of saying what Mindful Nature said is an old adage, "We are not punished for our sins, but by them."

    Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary? . . . and respect the dignity of every human being.

      Somebody else is doing bad things out of his own (however that happend to be his state of mind to do such things to other people), being obviously not the child's fault or a result of his karma.

      I think. I am not an expert on this topic. I hope I didn't misunderstand you.
