  •  I'm from the days (6+ / 0-)

when nuns and priests were very active in the anti-war movement and practically all of the groups they belonged to had a number after their names:  Catonsville 9, Baltimore 4, Harrisburg 7, Milwaulkee 14, etc.

The Berrigan brothers started the Plowshares Movement.

I remain good friends with oldster priests and nuns who were part of the anti-Vietnam Conflict movement.

    •  I remember hearing Daniel Berrigan speak about (0+ / 0-)

violence and Christian duty not to support it.  He was speaking at St. John's Univ. in the 70s.  He called their ROTC program a disgrace.  When asked by an audience member, "Didn't the US have to go to war to defeat Hitler?", Berrigan responded that he didn't think Hitler had been destroyed.  On a symbolic, poetic, spiritual level he was right.
