  •  Basic? BASIC! They're back to programming (0+ / 0-)

in freaking BASIC??? I should send out resumes. I can tell them I just picked it up last month.

Never mind. I've probably got too much experience, too.

    •  That's what Visual Basic.Net is and always has (0+ / 0-)

been.  Except the 20-something hr idiots can't seem to grasp that.  Even the 20-something programmers.  They believe the hype from M$.  They seem to think that there's some magic using Visual Studio.  Yet, they've no clue what's happening in the back ground.

There was one student that thought all programming should be point and click with generated code - what's to worry about??  He didn't get that there was 'extra' code generated to handle the point and click shit.  Why remember what parameters are for what data type, VS will take care of it??  On-call duties, that's for the gullible, I won't need to do that and I won't.  It was very scarey to think that these people may be out there writing code for some company some day.  If you don't GET what's going on in the development tools, you're not going to GET what your programs are doing and will end up with a mess.  Imagine Cobol software that has been operating for more than 40 years now - with business needs changing though, so code has been maintained for that long and much of the 'new' stuff can't hold up under real stress testing.
