  •  I think it's common, (0+ / 0-)

to replace the head of CIA of the outgoing party.  Carter didn't fire Bush so much as Gerald Ford lost reelection.

Anyway, my parents were proud John Anderson voters.  Carter was better than Reagan but didn't deserve reelection.

This was a purge following a scandal.

      •  That's just not the case, (0+ / 0-)

Bush offered his resignation after the 76 election, and he and Carter had brief discussions about his staying on, but neither pressed the point.  Carter preferred Stanfield Turner but wasn't entirely opposed to Bush staying on somewhat in the matter of Robert Gates.  Bush was only DCI for a little over a year, coming from the diplomatic field -- he didn't have strong ties deep in the Agency, really until he became Veep.

As to the allegations in the article, Carter was the first candidate to receive literally he same briefing that Gerald Ford got.  There is no sourcing for your article, as the events discussed are outside the personal knowledge of the one supposed authority, that is the ones that aren't straight false.   It also doesn't satisfy the straight face test.  The basis that the CIA put the Ayotollah in power was that Richard Helms was close to the Shah and, presumably, the Shah's idiot son?
