  •  Yeah, that was my impression too. (8+ / 0-)

Not a single footprint that I saw, but lots of bike treads.

The place you're talking about is probably Evey Canyon, which is at the Northern base of Potato Mountain - the Claremont Colleges manage it as a biological preserve for research.  I actually have a permit for it, and posted a diary in February with images from hiking it:

    •  A quote from the Feb diary caught my eye... (5+ / 0-)
BTW, I've been thinking about why it is I post these things here instead of going to some dedicated nature/wilderness/hiking site, and I think I've hit on it: Daily Kos is about more and better Democrats, and being involved with nature is about being a better Democrat, and a better human in general. That's my convenient rationalization, anyway, and I'm sticking to it - no need to say that I'm just used to writing here, and thus use it as a general clearinghouse for my thoughts and experiences I wish to share.
I've been thinking about this subject a lot, wondering if I should write about a bunch of non-political things I'm interested in, like mountain bikes, small hand-made aircraft, science fiction stories I love, etc etc so-on-and-so-forth....Your paragraph I quoted covers a little of my thinking on the subject.

I really liked the photos in the other diary, I'm not sure if that's the place I visited years ago, the ride was pretty long and pretty much went from the highest ridge around, down to civilization, all the while threading places yer not supposed to go like wilderness study areas and people's back yards (we would never do such a thing now!)

      •  Do write about more than politics here. (4+ / 0-)

These kinds of things are the reason we seek to elect more and better Democrats - because good leadership enables society to help its members seek out their potential, to have better experiences, to care for nature and promote scientific, technological, and personal exploration, and so on.  And also because writing about them enables you to engage in such leadership.

Your biking path might have involved what is now the Claremont Wilderness Park - which I've also diaried about - since I don't think it was a public area before a few years ago.

...then wound up on private property below...We actually only got a little bit of grumpiness, presumably because bicycles out in the middle of nowhere were more of a curiousity in those days, rather than an annoyance or irritation...
