She was a 12 year old half-Alaskan Malamute, half-German Shepherd, and she too had beautiful, intelligent, soulful brown eyes. As she was given to the Gods, I held her with her head resting on my lap, as my late husband Bob held her body on his, and I sang to her for the second and last time the song I had written for her walking on, "Where Good Dogs Dance". Schatzie was the first dog who ever identified herself as my dog.

I could not sing that song without my voice breaking. To this day, I still cannot. The only two times I've had to help a cat cross the Rainbow Bridge have been very sudden and I have not had an opportunity to write a song for cats. I have been much more focused on loving them up.

Why are war casualty counts "American troops" and "others" but never "human beings"?
