  •  Stripping the Compressive Taxes From the Rich (24+ / 0-)

encourages them to seek and businesses to offer top decision makers hugely greater compensation. It's not just that we were taking less from them, it's that with the top marginal rates below around 70% the top end compensation began to skyrocket.

This in turn drives the incentives for extreme returns. Most sectors of the economy can't produce them, but manufacturing can for a while by offshoring labor, everything else is pressured into extreme efficiency driving down wages for the workers and prices to suppliers, the economy shifts to finance and gambling as the accumulating wealth empowers the rich to deregulate, stop enforcing anti-trust, and so forth.

Both parties support the present wealth concentration policies and there's a graph I often post that shows how destructive Clinton's terms were in advancing economic injustice. I'll get back into that in November provided we hold the WH.

If not there won't be any point.

    •  Excellent post, Gooserock! (14+ / 0-)

De-regulation of markets and finance is the thing I hate the most, and the thing government can best be doing to protect the economy and the 99%. In Clinton's defense, I think we've learned a lot about the harms of de-regulation since he was President.

It is just amazing to me that almost half the country doesn't, now, after all we've been through, understand that Republicans stand for de-regulation, and that's what caused the Great Recession in housing and finance.

P.S. kirbybruno, I had not seen that photograph before reading your diary. Thank you very much.
