because they assume that a rising Latino population means that their own ethnicity and identity is at risk.  That's actually kind of silly, because for the last 150 years at least, the border has been a hybrid culture and will certainly remain so.  They can't stop to consider that perhaps the border is changing Mexico as much as it changes the United States.

For them, the fear is that a rising Latino population will reintegrate Arizona with Mexico, or some similar paranoia.  They can't see a world in which more people are of mixed ancestry than not, when it's considered a good thing to be bilingual on both sides of the border, and when this ethnic divisiveness just no longer makes sense.  Sad, really.

    •  I have faced these people over the last little (5+ / 0-)

while.  They are nuts.  They spout things about white genocide.  They equate immigration to genocide.  They equate themselves as victims "as much as the Jews."  They assert that they are superior and the true founders of this nation.  They call anyone who is against them "anti-white", even if the person is white.  They interpret the 1948 UN resolution on genocide incorrectly to apply to immigration.

The ones I was dealing with were hovering around this "whiterabbit" stuff.  It was bizarre.  These people are so brainwashed by fear that it could truly be dangerous.  These people seem deranged/delusional at a level that could spark violence.
