    about what May Day commemorates - my bad.

    We will never know who threw the bomb. (though Lingg, the loose cannon, was very likely involved)... and several of the men arrested were not even at the Haymarket.  The bomb (and the subsequent death of the several police) gave the powers that be an excuse to round up and arrest the most influential (ie: "dangerous") labor leaders in the city.

    And a resounding yes to the "working class hero" label.  The other aspect is the massive anti-immigrant (specifically anti-German) bias in Chicago at the time.
