... Powell was told to do that in hopes Obama would accept him into the new administration.... where Powell could have acted like a mole and reported back to Dumbya and Dickie, and influenced Obama to be even more accommodating in following in the footsteps of Dumbya and Dickie than he already has, what with retaining the same Pentagon and military people who so made a shambles of the invasions and occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan, continuing the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, extending the Bushista tax cuts, extending and adding to the Patriot Acts, MCA '06 to MCA '09, the FISA fiasco '08, and the 'office of faith-based initiatives' that is run out of the White House..., and all of that is unconstitutional.  [Why Obama, the "constitutional scholar," has betrayed his own education and background and chosen to ignore the unconstitutionality of the people and actions between December 12, 2000, until he took the oath of office in '09 is beyond my ken.]

Powell is their tool, their creation.  With that criminal regime, he had more power, prestige, and acclaim than at any time in the past.  He would, will, do or say anything to regain that former feeling of superiority, control, and power.

If Powell's current whining somehow prompts someone in the Obama administration to take pity on him and invite him back into the political sphere, Powell would still be a Bushista toady.

It makes sense but still saddens me.

Bear in mind, I've no idea at all what went on behind the scenes.  As I said... "I suspect."  I'm only basing my speculations on observing body language and things said in videos and what few articles I read years ago.  I just don't know.

While it may make sense, I'm also sad about it all.

My primary observation of the eight years of the Bushista regime is that everyone who was ever associated with them is tainted with the evil corruption of the center: Dumbya and Dickie.

What does NOT make sense is Obama's retention of the Bushistas in his administration from the Pentagon & military personnel on down.  Worse, the DoJ appointees under Dumbya & Dickie turned into salaried employees, so they couldn't/didn't resign when the Bushistas left.  The Bushistas in DoJ remain where they are and can mess things up..., like they lost or destroyed evidence that was being gathered for a prosecution of Alaska's Ted Stevens regarding the Bridge to Nowhere and how he built his home, etc.  The case had to be dropped because of lost or tainted evidence.  Still..., no one in Obama's administration or in Holder's office cleaned house and got rid of the Bushistas, so no matter how one looks at it, Obama now also goes after Whistleblowers with all the zeal of the Bushistas who went after other people who tried to reveal the corruption in DC..., and were rewarded with being called names, called unpatriotic, and otherwise reviled during two administrations and from both Repukes and Dems.

For whatever reason(s) about which I can only speculate, the reality is that I remain sad that the US has come to this, and as the days, weeks, and months pass with nothing changing and wars still going on, new ones started with drones, corruption being rampant, Congress Critters of both parties bought off by corporate interests, etc., I continue to feel more and more ashamed of being an American.  If I had my health and were younger, I'd emigrate to somewhere sane and give up my US citizenship.  Yes, I really am THAT tired of the US being the hypocritical laughingstock and war criminal of the world.
