  •  As Do I. I Often Mention (27+ / 0-)

here I am kind of middle of the road on Obama. He has done something I really like. Other times, not so much. But as I also say I am an IL guy and I knew he wasn't nearly as liberal as a lot of people thought. It is a good old fashion moderate guy. Pretty liberal on social issues, but middle of the road on everything else. I knew that and have come to accept that 99% of the time nobody running for office I can vote for will ever be as liberal as I am. With that said I am still very FUCKING motivated to vote for him. I mean next to Mitt Obama, well it is kind of a no-brainieraa isn't it?

    •  I am hoping he has learned (5+ / 0-)

      something about republican obstructionism
and will approach the republicans differently
      this time around.

The republicans used his centrism against him.

He seems to have found his voice again.
I hope he sticks with it.

I thought I was normal until I took one of those "Where are you on the political spectrum" quizzes. I was surprised to find out I was off the chart to the left.  Made me understand why so many people seem "crazy" to me.  It's me that is "crazy".  But I believe in going forward any way we can, big steps, little steps, crawling - as long as it is progress.

      Always forward!

      •  Someone forwarded a quiz to me (0+ / 0-)

from the "Advocates for Self Government".  I had major problems with their description of a "conservative".

Conservatives tend to favor economic freedom, but frequently support laws to restrict personal behavior that violates "traditional values." They oppose excessive government control of business, while endorsing government action to defend morality and the traditional family structure.
"Economic freedom" and "Excessive government control of business" - huge corporations free from any obligation to treat workers with dignity or protect the environment, and to crush smaller competition that don't have the political pull to have the government protect their freedom.

Oh yes, "defend morality" - as long as "morality" is defined as hating gay people and having the government dictate exactly when human life begins.  "Morality" that includes feeding the poor, housing the homeless, healing the sick, and all that other Jesusy stuff is for liberals.

Conservatives usually support a strong military, oppose bureaucracy and high taxes, favor a free-market economy, and endorse strong law enforcement.
"Srong military" meaning huge contracts to businesses, while cutting benefits and support to the actual troops.  "Bureaucracy" and "free-market economy" meaning regulations that would impede huge corporations from raping the land and its employees.  "Strong law enforcement" meaning shred the Constitution.

I found the quiz to be just right wing garbage.

    •  With all due respect, if he was as liberal as you (8+ / 0-)

and me would like him to be, McCain would be president today.

      Think about that.

      Take it a step further.

Think about a President Romney, who can't make a decision before licking his finger and putting it in the wind.

Republicans who mouth their current iteration of conservative "ideas" have become so demented, so dangerous, that I have a single mission: to beat them again and again and again. To pound them into irrelevancy. They are a write-off. I don't want to have one more bizarre encounter with them. I don't want to have one more argument with them. I don't want their unremitting Death Drive anywhere near my family, or yours. I want to consign them to the ash heap of history. At the moment, that's all I care about. I don't like them.
