    a "necessary ingredient" for meth manufacture . . . it used to be most commonly made from P2P (until that was controlled), and still can be where P2P is still available (like Mexico).  All the synthetic route from pseudoephedrine does is make possible "home cooking" where it was once confined to more sophisticated "quasi-industrial scale" labs.

    Which is not to say that meth shouldn't be controlled . . . just that, as you note, controlling pseudoephedrine will simply move the problem elsewhere . . . primarily to the Mexican cartels which have the resources to make the stuff in a number of different ways and smuggle it in by the ton.

    Fortunately meth is falling out of favor as people see just how destructive abusing it can be.
