  •  Reloading is perfectly safe done right and it (7+ / 0-)

sounds like you have an idea of the right way to do it....Carefully and Safely using the tested data from the myriad of manuals published by the various powder and bullet manufacturers as well as my fav the Lyman manuals, esp the Cast Bullet Handbook as I cast my own projectiles also...Thoroughly reading and studying as well as finding a shooter you know who reloads...there's lots of us out there, to help you and teach you the basics.

It's a precise process that is a hell of a lot of fun can teach you a ton about how a bullet actually works, and can save you real dollars....Esp in the expensive magnum pistol or rifle calibers....

Just today I was working up the cost of some 30-06 hunting ammo using Sierra Game King projectiles and reloaded to match quality and it was half the cost of the cheapest similar, the Fiocci while a quarter the cost of the "custom" ammunition....ammunition that is made to fit every chamber built instead of a round sized perfectly for the rifle... with the exact distance from the lands that rifle likes to shoot the best groups the rifle is capable of.

That's what you can do with handloads which is why damn near every competitive shooter reloads and they reuse their brass as the brass for most rounds is the single most expensive component.....It's also highly engineered and designed to be reloaded multiple times, how many depends on the loads used and reloading practices but to get 5-7 reloads safely out of a .308 or .30-06 is not unusual at all and if you use a premium brass like Lapua double that......

If you want some links to a few good sites to ck out get a feel for what is involved, let me know and I'll drop you a few in a kosmail....and really it's safe and fun but does take precision and patience and the ability to focus on a project....I think you'd have no problems....well except it's highly addictive and can really be both fun and frustrating but is always imo fascinating.
