It makes the head hurt to try to keep up with their crazy let alone get ahead of it.

is that truth and meaningful dialogue has been done away with when it comes to the right wing.

What options are we left with when confronting this insanity? Agreed, for the sane it is a migraine of epic proportions when trying to keep up with the crazy.

It becomes an exercise in futility to reach a consensus when their diatribes, hate and endless conspiracy theories take center stage. Therefore, I have become an actor and will merely play the part of a nut. I can just make shit up and watch the show as they readily agree.

No sense in working myself into a lather with these folks, so I might as well entertain myself at their expense.

If some Republican wants to have an adult conversation with me and leave the crazy at the door I am eager to engage.

My next door neighbors and I have wonderful conversations from time to time without the crazy. More often than not we agree to disagree without the vitriol and insane bullshit so commonly experienced as the diarist has expressed.

We do have some real batshits here, but most of the people I know who lean right are more moderate and seem a little lost, frankly.

is they do not speak up or out to the crazy within their party. My neighbors are aware of it, but in the end, a Democrat/Liberal is still worse than any Republican.

They are devout Mormons and truth be told are probably more devout to the Republican party. More so now that Romney is the candidate.

They're not birthers, but parrot all the other stuff that Fox spews.

No matter, President Obama and the Democrats are at fault for everything in America. Their view is that Republicans best represent them and America, facts be damned.

They were genuinely suprised to learn that I, as a Democrat, an athiest, could be a decent person in their eyes. Married for 25+ years, devoted to my family above all else, accepting of other religious faiths, etc.
I just didn't fit the stereotype.
One question they have repeated to me is "are you sure you're a Democrat?"

Yep. I'm sure. A very liberal and progressive Democrat at that, I might add.
I love it. They just can't seem to correlate it.

"but most of the people I know who lean right are more moderate and seem a little lost, frankly."
That fits my neighbors perfectly. Couldn't agree more.
Metaphorically they are aboard the Titanic. They know things are bad with their ship. (Republican party) The bow is below the waterline, they're just not sure if it is sinking or refuse to acknowledge that it is in grave danger of sinking.  The officers are doing a lousy job of leading after their Captain hit the iceberg.

They are a little lost in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
