  •  Those are some great comments, tom 47! (8+ / 0-)

and I know that you've lived through a lot of "state hate". I was developing carpal tunnel syndrome responding to all the anti-Texas comments on this site.

I know we're supposed to be about electing more and better Democrats here, but I wouldn't mind losing some of the "let 'em secede" mentality that crops up increasingly in some diaries and comments.

We are all in this together.

When the haters get us to turn on one another, it's like we're letting them live rent-free in our heads. Enough of that crap!

I spent a few days in Austin last week.  It's one of my favorite cities in the world.  I was born in Texas and have scads of relatives still living there.

They're not all right-wingers, as CassandraCarolina knows. I love all my Texas relatives, even though a good 80 or 90 percent of them hold political and religious opinions completely different from mine.  They're still family.

And how can a state with pecans, bluebonnets, and Tex-Mex be all bad?

      •  Hi, Diana in NoVa! Good to see you (0+ / 0-)

Texas is already a better place after your visit ;-)

I wish I could establish "travel scholarships" for folks to get out of their home state and comfort zone and see that people in the Hated South are really not all gun-carrying, pick-up-truck-driving, Fundamentalist bigots. They're a lot like people anywhere, concerned with the same issues.

My gay neighbors have been in a long-term committed relationship and have been readily accepted in Texas, as have my sister-in-law and her inter-racial family. Most of the time, nobody cares what other people do as long as it's not infringing on their right to do THEIR own thing.
