    and changing a position based on new evidence, additional experience, etc.  President Obama explicitly said that he had one opinion on gay marriage, and he acknowledges changing it based on several factors (such as getting to know several staff members who are in long term committed gay marriage who are raising children.)
    Changing your opinion based on additional evidence and experience is extremely healthy.  It's a key element in science, for instance.  It's adult behavior.
    Flip-flopping is just pandering to whatever is audience you happen to be trying to appeal to at the moment.
    That being said, I did kind of accuse President Obama of pandering to the Kleenex lobby in my "thank you" message.  But I forgave him for that ;)
