Harry, Harry, how I wish I could convince myself that you actually mean it.  Or that you could actually carry out filibuster reform, given a chance to do so.

Come to think of it, WHAT THE FUCK IS STOPPING YOU FROM USING 50+1 VOTES TO DO JUST THAT NOW, TODAY?  I seem to recall a lot of threats from the GOP to do a 'nukular option' a couple years ago....

are, as I recall, only usable at the start of a Congress, when the Senate decides on its debating rules for that Congress.

In the middle of a session, it takes 67 votes to change the rules. I suppose Reid could push for a change and have the VP ram it through (it takes 51 votes to overrule the VP on rules changes), but that would result in a shitstorm on grounds unfavourable to democrats. I'd rather shitstorms were about things like the public option, or the Bush tax cuts, or generally on issues which come with a pre-built-in Democratic advantage.

      •  Are you saying all those threats (0+ / 0-)

from the GOP when they had a majority were meaningless, that Dems caved and didn't filibuster Alito and Roberts for no good reason whatsoever?

Never mind, I know the answer to that.
