  •  The "wild and crazy" statement was made (14+ / 0-)

on the CBS This MNorning show after the Romney Campaign was told about the Post's investigation, per Lawrence O'Donnell last night.

It was a calculated attempt by the campaign, using Ann Romney as its willing surrogate, to inoculate their candidate from what they knew was coming.

She's just as much of a political rat as he is.

At the time of her statement it seemed to be a natural reaction in trying to "humanize" him after all the flak he's been getting about being a robot in a buttoned up stuffed shirt. If preparing for the fall out from this story was the intention, I'm not sure it's going to help much. She spoke of the "wild and crazy guy" with admiration, and they were a couple back then, so now she, too, gets to share in the "WTF? You think that kind of behavior is good fun?".

from a bright young conservative: “I’m watching my first GOP debate…and WE SOUND LIKE CRAZY PEOPLE!!!!”

I was under the impression, like others, that it was part of an attempt to humanize him, similar to Fehrnstrom recounting a short-sheeting prank played on Romney when he was MA guv, to which Romney responded by writing a fake letter from hotel management that said the "maid" who had short-sheeted the bad had been fired. The letter was shown to the trooper who had actually short-sheeted the bed in an effort to mortify him for causing someone else to be fired.
