  •  the big news is that this was stopped (8+ / 0-)

and is being investigated, and is in the papers. this shit has been going on forever, and noone aside from us bloggers seemed to give a shit.

there were some pretty seditious quotes in that article as well.

I wonder if that guy could be court marshaled.  I'm not necessarily advocating it, but teaching that we must commit war crimes seems like a crime in itself (in the military).

    •  This was a voluntary class (8+ / 0-)

I'm grateful that it is being investigated, but it wasn't part of any regular curriculum.  Some Lt Col probably wanted to teach some kind of supplemental class in order to forward some bizarre personal agenda, but he couched it in public service of some kind and hid certain realities of it from higher command.  Since it was not part of any curriculum though, he had sectioned himself off from the classes that are regularly monitored by TRADOC.

Add to that that he is a Lt. Col. and you volunteered to take his class, it took someone lower ranking with some balls to say WTF.  And someone did, this is a good on a military officer.

      •  Agreed - the take-home story is more encouraging (4+ / 0-)

        than not.

There's enough sanity and backbone in our military to weed out at least this sort of whackjobbery. Well done, Army!

If the Lt.Col. concerned doesn't have enough sense to take early retirement, at this point, however, I hope he enjoys some pretty bleak dead-end postings...

That Lt Col is as high as he ever goes with this.   He knew he was teaching outside of military norms and acceptability.  I can't believe he pulled that "why didn't anyone complain before this" card.  As if a bunch of soldiers you outrank are going to stand up and declare you batshit crazy to your face. Sometimes I've seen someone go a little rogue too when they didn't make the next promotion cut.
