    because as you say marriage is a legal contract requiring legal authority. And you aren't legally married until a civil or clergy authority says you are "by the power vested in me by the state."

    So since it's a legal union, you're right it's an e.p. violation to deny the same right to you for preferring a same sex partner as an opposite sex one.

    But barring a Constitutional Amendment, which has no prayer of passing in our lifetimes, a SCOTUS finding would be needed to get our system to acknowledge what's flat-obviously logically just.
