  •  what's not cheerleader about this Huffpo story? (8+ / 0-)

There's no such thing as objectivity in any political journalism.  It's all propaganda.

Given the choice between "O is glorious" and "O sux" I'll take the glorious if it gets a few more people to vote to banish fascists from our general political discourse.

Obama has really changed little of the Bush foreign policy.  We still have major presence in and around Iraq.  We are still deeply committed in Afghanistan.  We still rattle sabers at Iran.  Still no resolution of Palestine.  Still drones killing whoever.  Still Guantanamo.  Still Patriot Act.  I could go on forever.

      •  if that's what you want to do . . . . (4+ / 0-)

go on, forever and a day.  Knock yourself out.  What difference does it make for all those of us who actually live our daily lives?

        I don't think anybody's ever objective.

What I don't get is why you see this as an either/or.  I can hate Gitmo and the Patriot Act etc. (I do) and still make the calculation that both these situations came about because republicans had control of the government (to a certain extent because some people valued cynical complaining over over participating in a reality they saw as compromised).

Personally I think Al Gore and John Kerry are turds, privileged rich brats who felt entitled to patronize the american people and 'serve' us (and their egos), but I voted and cancassed for both of them because my real day to day life and the real day to day lives of everybody I know was made worse by the other privileged rich brat who ended up being "the decider".  I don't feel at all diminished for having done that.  Instead, I feel like I did something I didn't much want to do because it was of benefit to my community (the entire human race minus a few billionaires and their followers), kinda like cleaning the stinky in bathroom in a house you share with bunch of people.

        •  I could not disagree with you more on Al Gore and (0+ / 0-)

Kerry (although to a lesser extent).

But I agree with the thrust of your comment and I know personal opinions are just that. However, Gore's record as a legislator is pretty darn impressive, we need many more people like him willing to go into politics.

politics is about 350 million of us, not one.

As a lifelong feminist I developed a strong dislike for Gore during his antichoice '88 campaign and saw him as a panderer from then on (including making Holy Joe into a household name).

Neither here nor there.   What's important to me is making sure we don't end up with people like Dick Cheney in positions of power.

            •  Exactly. Or do we need another lesson in how bad (0+ / 0-)

              things can get?

Romney = Rove, Cheney, Bolton, Arpasio, Ryan, Norquist, Cantor, Walker.

Bombing Iran.  Medicare vouchers.  Privatise Social Security.  Get rid of the EPA and regulations on polluters.  Get rid of Planned Parenthood.  More Scalias on the SC.  And on & on.

You don't get the one without the others.

              Kvetchers are playing with fire.

        •  That's OK for YOU (0+ / 0-)

But news is supposed to have some degree of objectivity or it's just propaganda.  People vote on different issues.  You should vote on what matters to you but expect the rest of us to do the same.

      •  so go run for President or something (5+ / 0-)

we have beefs with the administration. we don't need un-cheerleading from you.

All of you Obama-gripers need to get with the program or shut the fuck up.

The only way to change anything in this country is incrementally, and with the politicians we have.  The President we have is better than any other we've had in years, warts and all.

You get three choices: Vote for Obama, vote for Rmoney, or stay home and kvetch, take your pick.

        Foreign policy changed little?

Iraq is over.  Jeez, we still have a major presence in Germany & Korea.  Please let it go.

Guantanomo.  Still?  Didn't Obama try to move those guys and the Repubs beat him up & he lost that one, 3 years ago?

Lybia.  Egypt.  Leaving Afghanistan.  The World Bank.  Torture finished.  Alliances with India and Indonesia.

        We're not hated everywhere anymore.

And as to drones...imo, Go Drones, if you're hitting Al Queda or their partners.

And I bet you know that Obama is taking the most peaceful path available available to him on Iran.

This "same a Bush" stuff in just bs.  Hype & hyperbole. Criticise away, if you'd like, but truth & accuracy count.

What amazes people overseas is the unfathomable stupidity of conservative Republicans.

Against health care?  Can't talk about evolution?  Believe the Bible literally?  Are we nuts?  Yes, I hear frequently from foreigners.
