    Some people can realize that they have an obligation to protect the rights & opportunities of their fellow Americans, even if their own religious beliefs don't recognize that.  But in my experience, when talking to conservative Christians, many put Jesus/God above the Constitution & the secular nature of our government.  For them, religion IS politics.  If we want to effectively reach them, it's better to undermine their ideas of WWJD? with a Christ-based argument.  For instance, as others have said, one can easily say that what you referenced is Paul, not Jesus.  That gets some Christians thinking about the difference, & of course if they look for Jesus to condemn gays, they'll never, ever find that.  Then they might think some more...

    I'm with you in that ideally, every American would be the first kind of person I referenced.  Making a Christ-based argument is not for everyone, of course, but for those who can do it, it's a legit way to make progress.
