    you know full well that candidate signs only matter in northern Illinois.

      A retired (Republican) legislator runs a business that rents space on farms fields adjacent to I-5 to put up signs.  A lot of people who drive up and down I-5 get super sick of seeing them, and think the farmers are enthusiastic Republicans.  While most of the areas are indeed pretty conservative, those signs are up there because someone is paying to have them put up.

        It always amuses me to see those signs, because Marion County goes blue half the time in statewide elections lately anyway.
