Jesus consistently reserved moral judgement separately from legal judgement. Even "render unto Caesar what is Caesar's" is a consistent policy.

In fact that was a fundamental break with Jesus's Jewish tradition.

The Hebrew people were ruled primarily by priests and their laws, and secondarily by kings (and often had no king). The religion specified worldly punishment for immorality. The afterlife was very vaguely described, and not the primary motivation for practicing blessed behavior ("mitzvah"). No real hell, no real devil, and heaven and god himself very vaguely described as a mountain of light, perhaps a feast, that the souls of the righteous would join as one after "Judgement Day".

Jesus described morality as being judged not by people, but only by god. The consequences of acting morally or not were to be received after death. In effect he separated church and state.

Of course, that's according to the bible. It's clear to me (especially from its many contradictions) that the bible is made up by some people, like every scripture. God is imaginary, necessary for religious people to intimidate people into acting according to their rules. And whether someone has sex with someone of their own gender is as much my business as whether they have sex with blondes or brunettes, if they're consenting adults. A genetic orientation, an infant psychology reaction, an adult choice, even a deliberately self destructive perversion - or a harmless matter of taste, it shouldn't matter to anyone else but the person themself.

The New Testament has even less business punishing people for purely moral "harm" than the Old Testament did.
