    Judaism does not and, as far as I know,, never has had any sort of tradition of monastic withdrawal. Those who study Torah are supposed to marry and have children. While there are always going to be ascetics in any culture who promoted celibacy they would have been viewed as outliers in Jewish tradition so nobody in the time of the composition of the Gospels would have had much occasion to reference them. Unless of course they were referring to practitioners of other faiths.

    So he says there was no tradition of monastic withdrawal in Judaism in Jesus' time, and you are saying that Jesus could not have used the world "eunuch" to mean man who are not into sex with women because the world he used should be translated as one who is in monastic withdrawal and has given up sex.

    One or more of us is confused.
