  •  I live in a central NC suburb. Every year, the (6+ / 0-)

    neighborhood listserve goes through the same pro-snake / anti-snake argument.  A few kill snakes on sight; most of us leave the snakes alone and hate the idea of killing them.  The neighborhood is forested lots bordering on undeveloped forest, so snakes come with the territory.  Our only poisonous snakes are copperheads, and they are mostly nocturnal and not very aggressive.

    My dogs got snake-bit one year.  I was nearly hysterical, but the emergency vet explained that copperhead venom doesn't affect dogs as badly as people.  He gave them some benedryl and antibiotics, and they were fine.  (I was nearly in worse shape than the dogs by that time!)
