  •  What's so frustrating is that Prince William (20+ / 0-)

County is now "majority minority," which means that if we could only get our "base" to come out in off-year and odd-year elections, we should be able to sweep a-holes like "Sideshow Bob" (and county board chair Corey "Xenophobe" Stewart) out of office.  So far at least, we haven't been able to do that...:(

I live near Prince William County and the Christian Republican base supported by several large Roman Catholic and Assembly of God churches are bastions of intolerance and Republican activism in Prince William County.

Sure, the Priests and the Preachers are careful not to advocate a particular person for office but they engage in hateful rhetoric against GLBT people and women's rights on a regular basis.

One of the hardest issues to deal with among the minority community is that many are associated with either Roman Catholicism or the Assemblies of God.  They fear voting for Democrats because the pastors repeatedly remind them that abortion and homosexuality are sins God hates most and that voting for candidates who do not fight these issues is collusion with sin.  This fear keeps them from voting for candidates who would protect their rights even if they don't vote for the homophobes like Marshall and Ligamfelter.  The influence of these churches keep Hispanic voters home even when the delegates whose positions on abortion and GLBT rights also seek to stigmatize Hispanic Citizens with the label "Illegal Immigrant" and subject them to searches and demands for papers or possible incarceration.

It is not surprising that both Bob Marsahll and Scottt Ligamfelter represent Prince William County-- the county that includes both Manassas Assembly of God --a Protestant Mega Church and Holy Trinity and Holy Family --both are Roman Catholic mega Churches.
