  •  But you have to agree they need to be called out (5+ / 0-)

They lecture us about decency, then this happens?

    •  I don't know. (0+ / 0-)

I don't sit around and listen to right wing or Christian radio, because it wouldn't take too long for me to be offended by something. I'm not so sure that racists shouldn't be allowed to have their favorite radio shows, just as we might like to listen to people talk about diversity and equal rights. To each his own. My advice to you is to stop listening to shows like that.

right to act.  Allowing people to go unchecked into these rants makes them more brazen.  They have the right to speak, but we have the right to speak and act in retaliation.  This is doubled when it is in a public forum.

channel. But when someone here goes out of their way to find some Christian right wing radio station, I'm really at a loss as to why they get so upset when they hear someone say "homo". Why actively seek out hate, and then recoil in horror when you find it?

          •  We shouldn't leave hate uncontested anywhere. (2+ / 0-)

No matter if it is mainstream or not.  Grassroots terrorists that pop up from time to time empowered and full of hate from this type of speech don't care where it comes from if it hits their ear.

Why seek out hate?  To make sure these people know there are plenty of people willing to stand up against them, no matter who, or where, they are, big or small.  The point I am making is we shouldn't recoil in fear.  We should fight back against hatred, whether whispered in a hallway or broadcast internationally.  Bigots have the right to speak, but we have the right to speak back.

          •  But even if you allow for homophobia (0+ / 0-)

you'd think racism would be a line over which they wouldn't cross.

            •  It's all the same to me. (0+ / 0-)

It's all in the category of shit I don't want to listen to on the radio. If I hear it, I turn the channel real quick. I think that's best for society - lots of open airwaves, but we each can listen to what we want to. To me, freedom is worth allowing for hate speech (at least in places I can easily avoid hearing it).
