    They just toss out a name to make themselves sound credible.  I've nailed a few for citing some "essential" book I should have read, and I come back and say "Well that books been out of print for years. Where did you get yours?"

    The worst offenders are the global warming deniers who claim every new paper "disproves" global warming but if you look up the paper it says exactly the opposite.

      Sorry to tell you that this is true on all sides. My own economic theory is that if I had a dime for every "analysis" (left or right) based entirely on a Wikipedia article, I'd be rich.
