nor a need to soft-peddle anything.

Not only does he need to hammer on the laundry list of lies and indictments, he needs to tell people about other things that people haven't heard about. I'd lay odds that over half of Wisconsinites don't know that the same ALEC/NRA "stand your ground" law is also the law in Wisconsin.

He would benefit by bringing up ALEC and pledging to end the secret corporate bribery and out-of-state authorship of Wisconsin laws.

I would take bets that maybe a handful of Wisconsinites realize that Walker changed state law so that an arrest warrant can now be issued based on hearsay alone. Direct evidence isn't needed any more. And this one isn't even from ALEC. No other state has dared to pass such a flagrant violation of the 5th Amendment. Yet Walker went there.

    Surprised? Me, too.

Walker's tyranny is actually far worse than we realize.

And he's forwarded all of this shit back to ALEC in order to send his horrible bills to become laws in other states.

Barrett should spend some time and do more homework. This shit has to stop.

When did that happen?   What the the legislation called?

Walker is as crazy as crazy comes.

This fight is about so much more than just collective bargaining.  How do we educate a populous that has already seemed to have made up its mind!?

      •  It's Wisconsin Act 285 (3+ / 0-)

The text is here. This Act doesn't allow hearsay in every single situation, apparently, but it still goes way past reasonable US and WI State Constitutional protections. Hearsay is not due process. Period.

This bill was the second to the last bill passed in the marathon "emergency" sessions in mid-April at the end of the 2011 session. Some of these sessions were called in the middle of the night and on weekends with plenty of notice for Republicans and last-minute notice for Democrats.

The list of Acts passed in Wisconsin seems benign if you only read the titles. Many titles are deliberately misleading. The list of acts that didn't pass is worse.

Wisconsin Act 10 is the big one that gets the most attention. It's loaded up with about a dozen ALEC boilerplate bills. One ALEC bill was meant to be a resolution, but Walker turned into a law. I don't recall which one right now.

He's a right wing hero because he passed more ALEC boilerplate than any other governor. This shouldn't EVER be a competition, but it is these days.

That's just the way Walker operates. He's not just a thug, he's bought and owned by ALEC and the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. Yes, it's real.

      •  I have no good answer to the second question. (3+ / 0-)

The truth about ALEC and the right wing cabal sounds too much like a conspiracy theory rather than the real conspiracy that it is.

A brand new document, ALEC Exposed in Wisconsin, The Highjacking of a State, prepared by CMD, Common Cause, PRWatch, and others, led by excellent researchers and reporters mostly in Wisconsin, is the BEST summary I've read so far. Contributors include Lisa Graves, John Nichols, etc. Top notch folks.

This should be at the top of Barrett's must-read list. This lists the ammunition he needs to wield that big hammer right now. It should be a must-read for everyone interested in ALEC and how this shit is going down nationally. I'll probably write this up in a diary if it hasn't yet been done.

There have been a few incidents that have helped us to get the message out. In this regard, Walker's overreach and his self-righteous evangelical arrogance has been a gift. The more people and families that are directly harmed by Walker's brutal actions, the more Democratic voters and GOTV volunteers we get. This is a lousy way to send a message, but you have to admit that it's effective. His divide and conquer strategy works both ways.

The attacks on teachers is visible and immediate. Collective bargaining really isn't the motivator, rather it's the surprises that parents see in the fall when they learn that class sizes are suddenly huge, programs important to their kids have been eliminated, and many of the best and well-regarded teachers have taken early retirement or left the state. This is personal.

Trayvon Martin's tragic murder exposed the Castle Doctrine and the ALEC/NRA ties, but this has turned into a polarizing event. Yet it got people's attention.

The Arizona SB1070 bill is infamous, but few realize that this bill was floated in Wisconsin and many other states. It failed in Wisconsin, fortunately.

The Voter ID crap is another overreach gift to Democrats. And Sad Little Jimmy O'Keefe's stunts in NH and elsewhere has been helpful to the left.

Still, the wingers don't seem to understand that this isn't stuff the Democrats are making up. It's very real. But they double-down thinking that Democrats are the evil communist socialist anti-Christ Muslim foreign terrorists constantly lying to them. This is the bigger challenge. I'm convinced that wingers need to be badly burned by their own in order to kick-start rational thinking. I've seen the transformation happen in an instant in a few ex-wingers.

I think that it's critically important to educate people about the right wing cabal and how it operates. Unfortunately, it's only an abstract concept unless someone is directly harmed by laws that can be tied back to the right wing. ALEC has become a primary connection because we can now tie the text of real laws back to ALEC boilerplate bills.

The challenge is much larger. Apathy, complacency, ignorance, fear-mongering, propaganda, lies, corruption, and more form the roots of the problems.

As you can tell, this stuff is a hot button for me.
