  •  Again, demographic destiny. (7+ / 0-)

We're seeing more "creative class" types shift the Denver suburbs while the ski towns become more hippie dippie and Latinos move in across the state. And considering how "culture warrior" the G-O-TEA has become, I've just doubted how Romney could even get close in Colorado.

The thing most people don't realize is that Colorado is one of the only states in the country where whites are trending Democrat.  Add that to some moderate Hispanic growth, and we should soon join Oregon and Washington as a permanently Lean/Likely D state.  The only part of the state that's trending Republican is southern Colorado, and that is also the part of the state with the most stagnant population, so it really is a net wash.

One factor that's helped make us a Blue State is Washoe County's trend. While there's a growing Latino population in Reno & Sparks, it's mostly educated whites that's transformed Washoe from a GOP stronghold to a Purple County.

I'm increasingly thinking that come 2016, Colorado, Nevada, & New Mexico will be in the same position on the Presidential Map that Washington & Oregon were in 2000: states that look tantalizing to Republicans, but are ultimately out of reach.
