  •  Harold is the strongest candidate for Republicans (1+ / 0-)

She has a lot of connections in the district, so being out of politics has hardly left her isolated and being young, female, and black she'll attract a lot of outside help. She'll raise lots of money she can act civilized and inoffensive and she's good looking and a good speaker. Wassink is a foaming at the mouth tea partier who has insane ideas about mandatory military service for men, she's also avidly against the farming subsidies that are so crucial to the economy of the rural portions of IL-13. Davis and Clarke areparty insiders who have no real in-district political base and if they get picked it will be easy to continue the attacks on Johnson's reitrement as somesort of shady backroom deal to promote some party hack. I welcome their nomination. Harold worries me. To my understanding she's very socially conservative politically and has some pretty radical views on contraception and sex before marriage that we could hypothetically exploit but she's not a tea-party type being unexpectedly laid back and charismatic. Rick Santorum before he became obsessed with Iran and went off a cliff might be a good comparison to make, if rough around the edges in some ways. At least that's what I've heard.

But I do think her views could be an issue in the general. Especially if her most conservative views are on social issues and she is vague on other issues. Because I dont know if that will really help GOP expand the voting base.
