I keep telling my libertarian friends that they need to stop focusing on Ron Paul and start focusing on the HARD WORK stuff - getting candidates elected at the local level, experienced and groomed for the future. If they want to work with the GOP (as they seem to), they need to learn how party politics works. That's what the Moral Majority did back in the 1980s, and what the Deaniacs did after 2003.

Bum-rushing a state convention to get delegates isn't hard work. Geez, the Minnesota GOP is so incompetent they can't even manage to pay rent on their HQ. But a serious libertarian groundswell will take YEARS, several election cycles at least. They'll start seeing real results in 2020, if they're lucky.

Frankly, I think most libertarians are too impatient, arrogant, and lazy to succeed at party politics. This fire will go out soon enough.

Meanwhile, back in my dream world, America is enjoying the peace and prosperity of Howard Dean's second term, while Senator Obama has clinched the nomination for 2012.

Essentially a crazy fringe in the red state tent who only just recently started screaming as loud as they could. I say give it this election cycle, maybe next and they will be marginalized again.

    •  Selfish (5+ / 0-)

They're all too selfish to actually work to promote their "vision" of Libertarian Utopia.  All the Libertarians I know are older, angry, white men who have a severe case of "I Got Mine!" who wouldn't waste their time on the "corrupt electoral system" to elect more "corrupt politicians" because all politicians are corrupt, don't ya know. They don't give on single damn about anyone else.

And I know from older, angry, white men since I am one myself. I'm just angry at selfish, small-minded, uncaring, tunnel-vision Libertarians, moronic, bible-thumping, lying, cheating Republicans, and people who drive in the left lane.
