  •  Um. How is the awesome? Let me count the ways. (26+ / 0-)

    1. Marti Noxon. If you're gonna name drop, why not a gifted writer, damn fine singer, and genuine head-turner? Boom! You win. I don't even want to mention mine, now.

    2. You are a writer. You kept on writing. You submitted and faced rejection. And kept on writing (as if you couldn't stop). That's what writers do, IMHO. Now, as to the question of how successful a writer you want to be...

    3. Query Shark. When I discovered Query Shark, I laughed bitterly for about twenty minutes. See, she'd already rejected my manuscript, almost certainly because of the many things she covers on Query Shark.

    4. See #3, add my own fear and frustration with my own query letter, with a dash of weird age parallels.

    5. This bittersweet masterpiece of articulation:

Not just the letter itself, although I will go ahead and gripe for three seconds about how unfair it is that we stupid whiney wah-wah baby fiction writers are judged by our ability to write engaging works of the most calculated nonfiction. Yes, it's a drag. It's also the way it is now. So we deal.
...which the only complaint I've ever wanted to make to an agent/editor, and of course never will.

Holy crap, you rock. Nice diary.

The problem with going with your gut as opposed to your head is that the former is so often full of shit. - Randy Chestnut
