I don't know what Booker was thinking.

I generally follow the rule of "don't assume malfeasance when incompetence will explain."

A political gaffe is when a politician accidentally tells the truth. It appears to me Booker instinctively jumped to the defense of his many friends and benefactors in private equity. But, in fact, Obama's ads deconstruct Bain, not private equity, but apparently that is distinction lost on Booker, and now, apparently to viewers of MTP.

As a surrogate he fails, in that he doesn't grasp, or isn't able to illuminate that distinction.

Not that Democrats should be shy about taking on the larger issue of "private equity" in general, as this diary makes the case. It is the root of the economic evil that plagues this nation. But I imagine many of them recognize they're in a glass house on that account so better not to make that larger case.

    •  I tend to agree with you, Scott. (0+ / 0-)

Booker's been spending too much time with the wrong crowd; it really can mess with your head.
