  •  Romney & GOP Would Pass a Stimulis Program (11+ / 0-)

However, it would be based upon tax cuts and increased government spending for defense.

Look at Reagan and Bush II.  They both stimulated the economy with tax cuts and increased defense spending.  They certainly didn't give a shit about deficits, which during their terms were the largest on record at the time.

Say what you want about the GOP, but at heart they really know their Keynesian economics.

Too bad the Dems can't do the same.

    •  That's the truth. (8+ / 0-)

Paul Ryan, on his Congressional website, has a front page statement excoriating the Obama administration for its policy of "austerity" which it shares in common with Europe.

      Austerity.  Heh.

According to the WSJ article, there's some truth to that.

Honestly, they don't care about this shit.  They don't care how much Obama spends.  They just don't want it to be Obama doing the spending.  They understand this.  It's only fools on the left who try to take them literally and then meet them half-way.

    •   But Defense? Might As Well Give it Away! (3+ / 0-)

Just pay the workers to stay home and cut Raytheon, General Dynamics, etc. out of the tax welfare flow.  Useless, completely useless.  Had Reagan and Bush spent that money on alternative energy and  other social infrastructure this country would be a much different place.

      •  Giving Cash Away is GREAT Stimulis (0+ / 0-)

Keyes doesn't care about where the spendimg goes, so long as the government spends. Yeah, we would be better off if the gov invested in solar energy, but Obama didn't push for a trillion dollar investment in solar  Meanwhile, Bush II got trillions for defemse.

Defense spending has such low economic multipliers it would be more economically stimulative to pay every wage earner in the Military Industrial Complex to stay home and cut the corporations out entirely.

Either that or put them to work doing something useful like building infrastructure.

Advisors for President-Elect Barack Obama feared the new administration would face a coup if it prosecuted Bush-era war crimes, according to a new report out this morning.
