welcome to the real whirled. .

I recently was asked to attend a confirmation of a close friend's son. The trappings, the deliberately constructed aura, the subtle, and not so subtle, demands placed on the newbies, again drove home the point that this is a sick organization.

Honey was with me, and after some particularly galling priestly pronouncement, she snuck a glance at me to watch my reaction. I was a good boy and behaved. Almost.

The parish invited the bishop from Peoria (about whom i diarrhea'd today) and more than anything, he set my teeth a-grinding:

Obedience to church - utmost importance.
    Service to community - Important
Obedience to church leaders (who he pointed out and instructed the new brainwashed to go to for any delicate and serious questions) - Utmost importance.
    Following parents' wishes - important.
Following the bible word for word - EXTREMELY important.

Between a couple of backhanded swipes at anyone not believing in his version of religion, and attacking the secular nation ours risks becoming, he then went on a personal inspection of each confirmation graduate. His questions contained the answer - just like his little speech beforehand.

Best wishes. May I recommend a great organization for you? FFRF - the Freedom from religion foundation. They are wonderful.

What we call god is merely a living creature with superior technology & understanding. If their fragile egos demand prayer, they lose that superiority.
