but I consider that a real issue.

Lots of times the post office will deliver things, even if you're no longer living there. Hell, I still occasionally get things addressed to my daughter, and she hasn't lived here for years. So it's not inconceivable for your absentee ballot to be delivered to that address after you've moved, and for the person who gets it to fill it out and send it back.

We all know how bad the voter rolls are, they're horrendously out of date in almost every state.

Would it be enough to swing an election? Likely not. Would most people either send it back or throw it away? Probably.

But it's a glaring hole in the system. And one that's easy to fix - just don't 'automatically' send out absentee ballots.

I get one automatically as well.  I'm disabled and have a hard time getting to the polls because I don't drive, or I'm not able to get up on voting day.  I usually take mine to the polls with me and they destroy it and mark it in the book.  I'd rather vote in person, less chance of it not being counted.  But I have done absentee a few times.  BTW, after my mom and dad died, I never got an absentee ballot with their names on it and I live in their old house.  They must be contacted in some way.  Another BTW, thanks tommyfocas, I guess I'll call to see if I was taken off the list as well.  I did get a postcard thingy asking to be sure my info matched what they had on record.  I'll double check the absentee thing and I better double check to make sure the info is correct.  Might be best if I go into the office instead of calling.  It's right near my doctors office.
