  •  I voted for Anderson in 1980 ... (7+ / 0-)

... and it is the only vote I have ever regretted.

I didn't believe the RW propaganda, but I had lost confidence in Carter and thought we needed a fresh start.

(I was also grieving my first husband and in a very dark place both mentally and spiritually, so it could be said I was thinking as clearly about the presidential race as I was about everything else, which is to say not much at all.)

My only solace is that Carter didn't lose because of my ill-considered vote -- Anderson was a liberal Republican and w/o him in the race the vast majority of his votes would have gone to Reagan.  Carter's loss is better explained by the primary battle w/EMK and the resulting lack of turnout in November by EMK supporters.

    But it's still a vote I would re-cast in a heartbeat.
