but he wasn't an effective President.

I don't know if a truly good person can be a great president. It requires a lot of nasty things to be effective in the white house.

For a truthful, honest, good person like Carter to be president could only have happened after the national tragedy of Nixon.

Even thought I wouldn't call him a great president, I certainly call him a great man, and I am proud he was our president.

Jimmy Carter could have been and should have been a great President, but what happened to President is exactly the same thing that we see happening to President Obama.  The Republican Spin Machine twisted and turned every program that President Carter suggested and turned it around into something that it really wasn't

The Republican Propaganda machine was really afraid of Jimmy Carter because of what he represented:  a Southern, Christian Democrat with military background.  A Southern farmer, businessman, with grassroots support.

The Republican Propaganda Machine was afraid that if President Carter succeeded as President the Democratic Party would have a Southern base to match their base on the East and West Coasts, in the Cities and with the minorities.  The Propaganda Machine found it necessary to destroy Carter.

who recognizes it and can get in the mud with them and beat them at their own game.  Not really a Christian virtue.

"There's nothing serious about a plan that claims to reduce the deficit by spending a trillion dollars on tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires." - President Obama
