I live here and I've seen it. We had an issue about six years ago with an autocratic decision being made by the school board about closing a popular school and there was mutiny. as a result, one school board member didn't run for election, another was defeated, and one of the two new school board members was part of the pushback on the decision. Both have kids in the public schools (both just got reelected). People here will speak up — very loudly — if they don't approve of decisions. We're hearing a lot now about a long-empty building that an orthodox Jewish school wants to buy and whose value the board was insisting was way higher than what was being offered. It looks like THAT is now moving along, thanks to community pushback. (For the record, given the new assessments, I think it's a good thing. It's all well and good to hold out for some pie-in-the-sky but meanwhile the building is disintegrating and it's a drag on the neighborhood.)
