When I left Indiana, I got a fairly polite letter saying in effect, "We've been notified that you put in a change of address. If this is a temporary absence but you are keeping your legal domicile in Indiana, please let us know ASAP. If we don't hear from you, we'll assume it's a permanent change and remove you from the rolls." In other words, it was a rebuttable presumption.

Then there's NH, which has kept me on the rolls even though I moved away from there 8 years ago -- goodness knows whether anyone has voted as me all those years, as well as my kids and ex-husband who are probably also still listed at that address.

rebuttal must be done with you (and your lawyer or you risk having your evidence thrown out on a technicality) in person during a hearing scheduled during normal business hours.  In other words, you MUST take off work if you want to challenge it as a phone call or letter is not good enough.

There is no saving throw against stupid.
