  •  Yes, some of us have known this (5+ / 0-)

for decades.  My eyes were opened when I was stationed at NATO HDQT's in Belgium in the late '60's.  I was enchanted by the people of Europe, other NATO troops, the young, smart students I met, as well as the older Europeans whose pensions and social safety net allowed them to live in dignity and without great stress.

Back then, things were better in the US.  My father was a Steelworker.  My mother was a stay at home Mom.  Five children in Catholic schools.  We had a comfortable life.  New cars & pickup trucks.  Small family farm.  Very comfortable due to union wages & benefits.  Much of that is gone.

I believe the Europeans now have the advantage.  American Exceptionalism has been generally a myth for a long time.  I would recommend anyone with the opportunity to leave the US for a social democracy where life is more fulfilling, without constant fear of guns (I live in Florida), and where life is less stressful and one's neighbors are likely more caring.  Oh, and intelligent.
